It is mainly from personal experience, And I read it once on Diabloii.net Merc Section, however I am too tired right now and can't seem to find it

Arreat Summit Link
Also, coudln't find it on Arreat summit, however, I will do some simply math for you.
JUST purchased a Normal merc at level 75 (didn't know it was possible, but I took a ScreeShot and as you can see in the game name, its a normal game (no difficulity listed)
1430 Life
173 str
139 dex
1061 Def
42 Res all in Hell

Now, on a level 5 Merc:
60 Life
50 Str
34 Dex
9 Def
10 Res all (in normal, -100% from hell penalty = -90%)

Now, Going from Diabloii.net:
CODE
Act II:  Desert Warriors
Agent:  Greiz
Strength 1.5 Dexterity 1.5
Defense 9.5 All Resistances 2

All of that is added per level, so:
Str: 1.5*70 (level difference) = 105, 105+50 (base level 5 merc) is 155, 173 being the level 75 total str. (worse)
Dex: 1.5*70 = 105, 105+34 (base level 5 merc) is 139, 139 being the level 75 total dex. (Same)
Def: 9.5*70 = 665, 665+9 = 674, 1061 being the level 75 total Def. (way better to hire at higher level)
Res: 2*70 (base normal res) = 140, subtract the 100% hell penalty, you have 40 + 10 = 50 Res in hell. (better to hire lower level)

Can't calc the life, as there is no listed changing mod, so it varies.

Well, I have been misleading my readers sad.gif

To hire at a higher level is your best bet by my calc's.

thats not true about the merc. If you hire your merc in normal before going to nightmare/hell, his stats will be better. try hiring a merc in normal then when you get to hell and he is at a level equal to that which you can purchase a new one you will see his stats are much higher. If you go back to normal and try buying a new merc his stats will be less. So you have to buy your merc as early as possible to see the benefit. I do believe though that you can level up as high as possible in normal then buy your act2 merc before killing baal and his stats will be as good as they would be if you bought him at level18. Just dont kill baal before buying him. So do your baal runs until you are ready to go to nightmare then buy your merc then kill baal. Someone let me know if this is not true.

jvangundy, I believe it to be false. I believe you make reference to an understanding of summonings like the Valkyrie when you speak of Benefits. The Valkyrie does receive benefits when moving from Normal to NightMare/Hell.

I don't believe that purchasing the Merc at high level in normal would make for a Superior Merc in NightMare. That taking this high level Merc and killing Baal in normal would offer any benefits to Strength, Dexterity, Health, Damage, Defense, Resistance, or Experience once you hit NightMare. I would think that when you got to your first NightMare created game that the stats for the merc would be the same because your merc is not like the Valkyrie.

The Merc gains Strength, Dexterity, Health, Damage, Defense, Resistance, or Experience exactly like your character does without benefits. The only benefits the Merc will receive is from you killing like a Maniac or adding items.

There's nothing original/special about this guide? Simply a PvM Hammerdin mixed with a couple MF gears.

just try it? he will have more life and resists and also higher aura level

if u hire a lvl 90 defiance merc in normal or a lvl 90 defiance merc in hell, the one from normal will be better

"Name lock" allows you to tele directly onto your target, and your hammers will hit it forsure (unless the target moves afterwords). If you don't "namelock" and just tele "near" the person, there is a very unlikely chance of actually landing a hammer, as hammers spin out in a sprial pattern.
