The other day the CVS picking up my mother's prescriptions for her, I picked up some sudafed for myself(regular sinus edition and the cough version). I got carded. On the way out, I grabbed a bottle of nyquil because I noticed it and went back up to the front register and paid for that. On the way out, I was grabbed by a security guard because I was flagged for suspicious purchases. He didn't take too kindly to being sneezed and coughed on.

I think its pretty amazing your CVS has a security guard

Two guards on each side of the pharmacy in the back usually. A step up from the typical rent-a-cops. These guys are armed. I've seen some local police moonlight there.

The joys of living in the inner city, where your pharmacy is a prime target for prescription drug theft.

Waiting periods I would think would help more for suicides then mass shootings.

Also unless your paying cash for each transaction you make you should recognize that your purchases are being tracked already

That's a county drug store, not city.

It probably more about the ubiquity of drug usage and the conversation that are in pop culture helping change views too. I saw the Times and some UN proposal recently to treat drugs as a health issue instead of just criminalizing aspect, so it's just a matter of time before we start to seem some meaningful reform. Prescription drug abuse is much more of a problem up here then the illegal ones, you're always hearing about oxy problems.

At what is being billed as the most significant high-level gathering on global drug policy in two decades, the stage will be set for world leaders to discuss what would have once been unthinkable — reversing course in the war on drugs
