Yo!

I'm snapping some pictures of clothes right now for a friend, theese are being uploaded to a webstore.

My question is how would you guys get a good background?

I don't know if my method is okey, but I use a white foto-sheet and photoshop it away to plain white after a picture has been taken. Its easy to do with this magical-selection tool but if you zoom at the pixels you can see that the background is photoshoped (sometimes and in some specific locations of the picture).

Lighting is going to be essential.

Your background should also be flat and lit up properly so you can remove it after.

Indeed! Have noticed that when I get light from the windows at day the background is easy to remove :)

Does everybody remove the background like me or could that be considered as cheating?

Thanks for your response!

I have no clue. I don't do that kind of shots. I'm sure you could find what you need by searching the right stuff on YouTube though :)

Yeah, probably... But I prefer talking to people on this board instead of checking online, shared experience usually teach better imo :)

Are you flat laying these clothes on a white background or shooting on a model on a white background?

I have extensive experience in both so I'm happy to help out :)

A doll actually, skin-colored, tried first with a black but apparently those pictures weren't too attractive!

How nice of you to help ! Looking forward to it :)

How many lights do you have and how big is the area you are shooting in?

just two lamps , not a big area , about 3 meters and I just got a lense "70-300mm 1:4-5.6" for long rated pictures so its not too easy :/

Okay what you need to do is have the model as far away from the background as possible. Light the background so it is 2 stops brighter than the model. Have the light on the floor pointing at the background in line with the model. The reason for being further away is that the bigger the separation, the less light flare/haloing you'll get on the subject, making the silhouette cleaner and more defined.

3m isnt much. If you could get 5m somehow it would be better.

What lamps do you have?
