It's not self-defense. The kid probably deserves it, but it wasn't self-defense in any way.

I'm partially inclined to agree with you, but that driver has interests he has a right to defend beyond his own self-preservation. He's unarmed against an armed assailant who just committed a felony.

You could argue that I suppose. However, I don't think civilians can really make that sort of judgment.

Not self defense but I wouldn't be looking for any mandatory minimums either

can't be allowing revenge like that but dude had a gun waved in his face, look at the his record and if it doesn't have any causes for concern cut him a deal

Why not?

Protecting minor interests (shoes and $200) with lethal force after the dangerous situation is over and the perp is leaving isn't justified in my eyes and reengaging then puts the driver and pedestrians back at risk.

Value human life more than minor stuffs when given a choice.

He doesnt have a right to run someone over because he lost some money... sorry santara.

I dont feel a great swell of pity for the kid who lost his arm robbing someone.... but it wasnt self defence

$200 is a minor interest, I agree. Armed robbery is not, however. While I disagree with the driver's action for being less than the most rational course of action, I cannot say I fault him either. Being the victim of a felony kind of grants him some latitude. If it had been a cop in the driver's seat, would this scenario be any different on a legitimacy level?

People laud store clerks who use lethal force in defense during robberies, how is this that much different?

I've had guns waved in my face

people respond to that differently especially if you're not used to stress levels or fear that extreme

I wouldn't be looking to give this guy more than 30-60 days with some sort of anger management type counseling with some community service
