It's basically the story of how the people behind the, "Smoking isn't bad for you," "SDI will totally work," "CFCs don't affect the ozone layer," "Second hand smoking isn't bad for you," "Acid rain doesn't happen," "DDT is great," and, "Global warming is a myth," are all the same people. Now, obviously, the guys in the 60's who started the smoking is fine campaign aren't still alive, but there's overlap throughout the whole thing. People with PhDs writing OpEds to counter actual scientific articles (and winning).
