That depends on what the 'goal' for voting Green Party is. If the goal is to vote for the person who will go on to win the election, then yeah, it's effectively throwing away your vote. If the goal is to instead vote based on your principles while generating more attention to a party that better represents those principles, then voting third party is definitely not throwing away your vote. It's also important for the proliferation of that party and for things like federal funding/matching of elections.

Pretty obvious to everyone else, but I think all the Trump supporters' talk about Trump winning NY in November over Hillary should stop now:

~1.8 million votes for Democrats

~700 thousand votes for Republicans

with 95% reporting

Even if you combine all of the Republican votes together and compare it to just HRC's votes (no Sanders votes), HRC still wins by hundreds of thousands of votes.

Are there really people who are this high?

Yes. A lot of Trump supporters think/thought Trump had a good shot at winning NY over Hillary because of his ties to the state.

It's kind of cute but pretty far from the truth.

Trump supporters often argue some historically blue states might turn red if Trump runs because of his nationalist/populist type appeal.

In reality, a couple states that would have been red if an establishment Republican was the nominee will actually turn blue if Trump is the nominee. He would/will get destroyed by Hillary Clinton in November.
