Then they are probably mistaking their affluence with good parenting then.
More affluent parents have less kids. They have more resources. You have more resources going into less children and it is almost a matter of math.
Of course free will and self-determination matter, which is how cycles of poverty are broken or entered into.
I love my kids but I have no doubt I fall short. In fact I've neglected them and every other area of my life for the past five years to finish college. It was this or another 20 years in the service industry. I feel like I missed a lot. I'm taking my last exam ever today unless I want to get a PhD or Go to law school down the road....and it is a mix of relief and bitterness. I had similar feelings leaving the army.
Really went on a tangent but I have a lot on my mind.
Today is also my second anniversary. A bright light in my world ☺
Not to sound judgemental but you feel bad for not giving your kids enough attention over the last 5 years, so instead of settling down in your career, and giving them attention, you're looking at possible law school/Ph.D. Which would just deprive your kids for the next 3-5 years.
It sounds like you've already made up your mind that career first and kids second.
