We have a 50' x 15' Raspberry Patch with a stripe cut down the middle to give 360 degree access to two 5 foot thick strips of Raspberries. Next year we will be thinning the patch as its really too many berries. We get that large gallon sized bowl worth of berries each day and quite honestly can't even give them away fast enough. Raspberry presserves, pie filling, raspberry honey butter, etc. We'le do it all this month!

The cherry harvest has not gone as well, this is about all we've been able to beat out the birds for. And we will likely not get many more this year. Next year we're considering a large net or anything else we can try to keep those birds away. Suggestions welcome!

The Blackberries are the real treat, over ice cream for me! We have a few sporadic bushes, perhaps 5-6 total along a 50' edge of brush. Next year I would like to clear out behind them and mulch to allow better access as well as transplanting some of the planted flowers away from them as they seem to be choked out. We get around 3/4 a quart or so each day of these tiny little tasty berries.

Not pictured are about a gallon bag worth of red leaf lettuce, a purple dragon carrot, and some basil to make pesto with. Hope all of your gardens are going well!

Tipsy planter. I've since added some common annuals.

Apologies about the orientation. No idea why tinypic does that on android.

Cool planter idea!

They have REALLY been producing this summer! I think im going to have to make some raspberry wine with how many I have, gasp the horror!

Ironically I think i could get more berries from less plants, there seems to be a thin line between the patch insulating itself against weather and smothering itself. Next year I will thin quite a bit more and in the winter I'll rake out a lot of the death growth to allow new shoots to come up. I'm also going to do be able to get to more plants by removing some, only about 75% of the patch is accessible the way it is now but its so damn thick it needs work to clear. Lots of old metal pieces mean i cant just mow down a path like id like to. Fall projects for sure, as well as making out 50'x30' ground garden all raised bed instead.

Are those little wild blackberries?
My gf and I just picked a gallon little wilds in her parents yard.
Going back again today to pick some more, I had back surgery so I can't pick that much but I'm hoping for another gallon.

They are actually black raspberries, also known as black caps. Blackberries are usually a bit larger and the berries themselves are atypical and asymmetrical, whereas black and red raspberries are usually very symmetrical. Both are incredibly delicious though!

The only thing really different for maintenance is that you should always put a deal of space between red and black raspberries, otherwise the dominant breed will take over the other, I assume it happens via polination but im no botanist. True black berries and raspberries can be planted together with no issues. The more rare golden raspberries are the same, and its a damn shame to plant a bunch of black/golden raspberries but only get red ones!
