what genre do you enjoy? i'm mostly into urban fantasy. a few of my suggestions:

11/22/63 by stephen king. sci fi / historical fiction. man discovers a portal that brings him back in time. he uses it to try and save kennedy. this is now a hulu tv show.

off to be a wizard. fantasy / comedy. computer geek discovers a program that alters reality. he uses it to travel back to the middle ages with the intention of pretending to be a wizard. to his surprise, he finds other computer geeks who did the exact same thing.

goosebumps by RL stine. these are more of a guilty pleasure for me. they're kids books you can read in an hour or so (~100pg). features a 10-17 year old kid in school who finds some supernatural horror and ends with a twist ending.

you can google [goodreads fantasy list] or whatever genre you like. they'll have lists of books the community recommends along with ratings.

You looking for high culture/literary stuff or more just young adult easy stuff with good stories but less literary merit?

If the latter, I'm about halfway through The Hunger Games and it's just fantastic. Such great characters, very clear and succinct writing, and emotionally powerful.

If the former, try War and Peace.

Watch movie adaptation trailers. If it interests you, consider reading the book. A neat little way to find readable pieces of fiction....after all they wouldn't be adapted into movies if the books weren't enjoyable..no?

Give some tips about what do you like...

Generally, the books that are considered "classics" have had a good respone throghout the time by a lot of people, so chances are you'll like them.

Just some random suggestions:

Gone girl, really intense thriller (book and film, first book then u can watch film)

The catcher in the rye, salinger even if americans read it in highschool, I think its fore a bit more mature audience.

A farewell to arms, hemingway

1984

Disgrace

easy-reading thrilogies: hunger games, divergent...

kafka's metamorphosis is funnier than what people think ;)

The great Gatsby

One on my all time favorite authors is Chuck Palahniuk, he wrote the book of the movie adaptation Fight Club. All around easy stuff to read. Most all of his books I've read by him I've thoroughly enjoyed.
So of the better ones Are; Rant, choke, fight club, lullaby, and Diary.
