I was conversing with my friend the other day and he said that King of the Hill (abbreviated KotH) is not anime. But he's just saying that because he's one of those elitist Wapanese types who wants to just include what he likes and exclude perfectly good anime like KotH and Duck Tales. They're just as valid as any other anime/manga, and they don't even need inferior subtitles. There is no set definition that says what is and is not anime.

Totally Spies is another good anime but he says it's not just because he doesn' t like it

In Western society, Anime specifically refers to Japanese animation.
King of the Hill is animated, but not Anime.

But if you went to Japan, they would consider King of the Hill to be anime because anime to them includes everything animated.

As someone from USA i second this.
For me anything considered "anime" normally is from out of the country. Any western animation shows are labeled cartoons imo

Anime is Japanese hand-drawn or computer animation. The word is the abbreviated pronunciation of "animation" in Japanese, where this term references all animation without regards to the nation of origin. Outside Japan however, anime is used to refer specifically to animation from Japan or as a Japanese-disseminated animation style often characterized by colorful graphics, vibrant characters and fantastical themes. Arguably, the stylization approach to the meaning may open up the possibility of anime produced in countries other than Japan. For simplicity, many Westerners strictly view anime as an animation product from Japan. Some scholars suggest defining anime as specifically or quintessentially Japanese may be related to a new form of orientalism.
