... but it is time to revive this collection once again.

Everything is organized and inactive links removed.

Thanks to Slunko for handing out that huge bunch of links many years ago and all GD regulars for letting previous threads die.
Even though this section has gone quite inactive in last few years, I hope this still helps out people who are yet to join us.

Motivational Quotes
You learn to draw by drawing.
People that are better than you are just better than you because they’ve had more practice.
    Draw VERBS, not nouns.
Turn everything you paint to greyscale (digitally). If it looks like a grey soup, you f**ked up.
If you’re not sure what good values look like, look at screen stills from B/W movies, like Citizen Kane.
50 bad illustrations might yield one good one.
Sometimes you gotta draw it 6 or 7 times.
Use sharp edges for only important things, practice hierarchy and contrast. Have a focal point.
If you are going to give someone a jewel, do not surround it with shiny things.
Saturate your eyes and brain with work that is better than what you can do. Then put it all away and start working.
    Progress, not Perfection.
    Schedule time to utterly fail.
Take reference, it is easier that way. Do not make stuff up if you do not have to. If it doesn’t exist, figure out how to take a picture of it anyway. Use cardboard, clay, macaroni… does not matter.
Doubt can only be removed by ACTION.
Use the best materials you can possibly afford. You’re already fighting a battle. Do not fight the materials. Find pencils/brushes/paper that feel good.
Does it work in greyscale? Does it work at postage-stamp size? Does it work reversed? Upside down?
Do what you love, other people will love it too.

There are no beauty standards other than individual taste but certain rules make some things more appealing than those that do not follow these rules. To work professionally outside of the boundries, you have to first master yourself within those.

I have literally never seen anyone who hasn't improved following tutorials.

On other hand, I have a perfect example of your method - look up cu_luu painting and drawing thread.

If you followed a tutorial you might learn about blending and proper use of clipping masks.

While we have that little nice conversation here, you can contribute with your own tutorial collections and I will add them to topic next time. :)
