I see pole arms are almost double the damage of axes
Are they better then an axe given same stats? Some guide i read before jumping in said fighter axe is the way to go with even str and dex distribution and 75 vit points for mq

Heavy weapons deal 2x the damage per hit. But they also hit 2x slower.

Balanced out over time both technically would do the same damage per second.

I prefer that I hit faster rather than harder, most of the time mobs die in 1 to 3 hits (1-3 game ticks) for my gear. If it was heavy weapons - that would be 1 - 2 hits (2-4 game ticks). Therefore I find normal better/faster.
Heavy weapons are also much more rare than normal weapons. Which makes them more difficult to get.

/e all of the different weapons have a wide range of min /max damage - and attack speed. All things equal, every weapon will average/balance out to the same dps. People prefer axes/daggers because the are the only two melee weapons you need to reset the ladder, and the damage output from them is consistent (unlike clubs which can vary greatly on min/max)
