Interesting concept I saw debated on another forum. Should gun free zones be civilly culpable for injury or death if they do not provide adequate security for their patrons? If so then what is adequate security? If not why? Again this is a civil and not a criminal matter.

No.
People freely go into them under their conditions of no-guns, and there is not an expectation of perfect safety from mad gunmen.

Do the police (the protectors) have to take their guns off when they enter these zones? No? K. No argument here.

Not much stopping me from going into one with another gun either.

I'm pretty sure the gun-free thing only applies to amateurs. Professionals are expected to do their duty as usual.

The entire concept of a gun-free zone is ridiculous. America is a drug-free, murder-free, theft-free zone using the same logic. It doesn't stop anyone. To make it a true gun free zone, there would literally need to be controlled access and checks for anyone entering said zone. Otherwise it's just words, and words and laws don't stop people that don't care about them. A gun-free zone is an invitation for someone wanting to harm others to attack it with as little resistance as possible.

No, it shouldn't be a civil liability. They should just know that posting the signs put a little blood on their hands.

NO NO you can't blame the owners of the establishment anymore than you can blame the makers of the gun or the gun show where he bought it( as an example)! Don't you see it's the same reasoning that the gun haters use to get gun rights destroyed. None of those components are what's responsible for the bloodspilled. The criminal is 100% responsible when we start to let the exceptions be made Like "Well if it hadn't been so easy to get, he wouldn't have done it". Chances are yes he would, but a percentage of the blame has been lifted.

Pretty soon. The gun is too easy to get, the laws are too lax we need gun restrictions, places should be better protected, even..(a touchy one) we need better mental illness treatment facilities and programs that can help and prevent this sort of thing. We end up with all of these excuses and releases of responsibility the Shooter winds up not really responsible at all, it's just all this stuff society has piled on.

ultimately the finger that pulls the trigger makes the final decision and has to be held accountable
