I don't get what point you're making here.... this rambling is all over the place...

(not sarcasm I actually don't get what point you're trying to make or if there's more than one )

You called Caedus ignorant because he smokes after getting lung cancer. Shadowoffury showed that choosing to smoke with knowledge that it's harmful does not make one ignorant.

Smoking isn't just about long term effects. It affects your physical capabilities and makes your breath gross.

Yeah but it looks cool.

Skateboarders skateboard even though they may get broken bones, boxers box even though they may get brain damage. They aren't ignorant of the risks...

No difference between that and smoking though you might get cancer. Just doing something you enjoy even though there are risks. Life is a risk. I still cross the road even though I may get hit by a car... I'm not ignorant of the risk of being hit by a car.

I've always viewed the " well the risk is small so it will never happen to me " argument as ignorant

I don't think anyone says that. You hope it doesn't happen but to say it will never happen is to claim something you simply cannot know.

You're not wrong. It would be ignorant to make that argument. I just don't think there's many, of any, people that would use it seriously. They might say it in passing... but in a serious discussion I think pretty much anyone would admit they can't know it won't happen.

...did it take those same serious balls to run away to Russia ?

Blowing the whistle took the balls.
Running to another country to find some sort of protection took the brains.

Forget it. Not worth arguing the meaning of courage with a man who thinks bravery is not caring that everyone thinks his Maccy D's dinner date is his daughter.
