Lots seem to hate breakdowns, not like them, call bands trash for having breakdowns.


My opinion -

I personally enjoy breakdowns, when I'm at concerts typically as soon the new song drum/bass hits and the guitar starts shredding people mosh like no tomorrow and eventually it dies off slowly as the song goes on then as soon a breakdown hits and vocalist changes pitch; people start going hell maker again.
It seems in concerts breakdowns are what keeps the crowd going nuts.

There are different kinds of breakdowns, you have hardcore styled breakdowns, even deathcore tends to be slightly different (with many bands soloing over break downs). You have your jing-jing kind of breakdowns. And your more classic death metal breakdowns. It's all good, music is music. I thought I'd share this for now : ).

not that i have anything against them per se, but if a song *needs* a breakdown to keep people interested in it, its not a good song.

also breakdowns are usually associated with metalcore, which generally just isnt so good.

agreed, but i've developed a tiny soft spot for a breakdown or two.
