I also shoot with a D750 and Sigma 150-600 Contemporary :)

I went into the back yard to get a fresh shot for the thread (I hate taking shots of little birds, so much cropping involved & they skitter around):

Unfortunately TinyPic reduced the quality, some sharpness loss, also reduced file size to a 1600 resolution rather than 1920. Didn't want to put this shot on Flickr.

the trick to little birds is pitching and camouflage.

bring em to you, and reduce your size as a threat ;)

I just don't like them lol. They're not interesting. The flowers and branches they are on make for some fun sometimes, but I like owls, eagles, hawks, cranes, etc. Things that are big (hawks are on the smaller end usually but still really cool).

Unfortunately the eagles have moved from the nest across the street just after I got permission to go on the property to take shots. Their nest fell in a windstorm so I'm hoping it gets reconstructed (may be by the eagles, or by conservationists who have cameras installed on a branch overlooking the nest).

But, I know where cranes, hawks, and swans are. So that will be an outing soon enough, just wish it would snow (in summer?)!

the little dudes are deceptive though.

they all look similar and you have to be able to tell the difference between a common one and a rare one. it's the challenge that makes them more interesting.

sea birds are my fav doe.

Went out today, and saw a lot of birds. The light was really harsh, but the D750 really showed its strengths and let me fool around with the exposure without sacrificing the colours! Really happy with my decision to get the body.

I had a shot of a Northern Flicker already, but this one sat just right for me. Really happy with the capture.

Long-billed Dowitcher

Red-breasted Nuthatch. These guys move so quick and have been an absolute nemesis of mine. it was great to get a good shot of one finally.

There really are so many different birds out there, and someone of them are masters of not being seen.
That said, there are a lot of species everywhere. It's just knowing what to listen and look for, and knowing which species are in season, as they constantly migrate.
