I'm in book 3 of the Malazan Book of the Fallen series, by Erikson.

It's pretty good, but haven't finished the series so take this with a grain of salt.

The First Law trilogy and The Heroes standalone by Abercrombie are good. Pretty dark though.

The Horus Heresy.

Sci-fi future but with a great mix of magic and sorcery / gods and daemons.

I recommend: Wardstone Chronicles - Joseph Delaney

The first book is The Spook's Apprentice.
The Seventh Son (movie) is based off the first book and it doesn't do it justice imo.

The series pretty much ticks your preferences:
Epic fantasy
Swords and sorcery
Male protagonist
Characters are constant throughout the series

Theres 14 books in the series, the last book just came out this year. A few books (about 3) diverge from the MC and focuses on other characters that are introduced to bring insight to them.
