The police officers who committed this crime arrested, jailed and never to have a badge again.
Justice is not only about remuneration. It is also about punishment for the perpetrators.
Jailed for assualting a suspected violent criminal with their bare hands? He was party to a robbery with a deadly weapon, the police made a mistake of thinking he was the one with the knife. The cops could have tasered, pepper sprayed, or shot the guy. Afterall he was suspected of brandishing a knife. And what is the #1 thing we always hear in the shooting unarmed citizen's cases? "That threat could have been neutralized without a deadly weapon." Then when it actually happens but the circumstances turn out the guy wasnt the one with the weapon and only connected by association he gets released without a charge, and will be compensated for the wrongful imprisonment and wrongful physical harm. But on top of that you want to put the cops in jail? Answer me this: if they had punched the guy with the knife would you still suggest they be jailed? No. It was a mistake of identity, not an unlawful use of force, if it had been directed at the correct person. For that reason the person will be paid a settlement to cover that mistaken identity. If the scenario would have been no knife present at all i would agree, instead its just a case of mistaken identity IMO, not excusable but not worth criminal charges whatsoever.
