Thomas Jennings was confronted by the two policemen after walking out of a food place with a slice of pizza and a salt and pepper shaker after having an argument with the store clerk. The cops caught him in a convenience store. When confronted he can be seen putting his hands up but the cops partner comes in swinging and smashes him several times in the face. Then cuffs the cooperative Jennings while the first cop uses his baton on his back.

No need for this violence at all Jennings was complacient he had his hands up and then got sucker punched. This is what builds distrust and hate for the cops.

It seems like unnecessary violence to me any counters?

Well as food service workers just won 15$/hour I'd say a slice of pizza is on the rise price wise.

As for the cops there is never a reason for a closed handed punch unless it is in retaliation or to beat someone to the punch which clearly wasnt the case. Lucky for the guy he is in NYC tho, the city just dealt with the Eric Garner situation. Unlike the Garner case this guy will im sure be happy to cash a check, whereas Eric's family sees it as blood money. He should be looking at 500k-1mil for that punch imo. Not justice but im sure he wouldnt take back the black eye.

Him and his homeboy had just pulled a knife on the pizza shop employee

Pulling a knife on a someone should get him a punch in the face, not a windfall from the NYPD.

i cant hear the conversation, he very well might have said something to deserve it - he just robbed a store for $3 - so to say he was already in an aggressive mood isn't stretching the truth too far, plus the case got dismissed and he probably just has hurt feelings, so whatever.

What political correctedness run amok is this? If you pull out a deadly weapon and rob a store and then resist the police officers who intervene and arrest you, you're going to get your ass whooped and can consider yourself lucky if all you get is a punch.
He deserved worse.
