so I was sitting at work on my brake looking to see if anyone bought any of my stuff and i begain thinking instead of looking every 5 min what if the site just sent me a email saying "your post has been updated" with a link to said post i would like that a lot what about you?

Personally, you have already the Instant Messenger as Cheetos said who notify you with a Beep when a person post in your thread, send you a pm, join your event, leave your event, send you a friend request etc...
So in my eyes it's enough.
