i once thought not stealing stuff was normal but i've been surprised to find out that almost everyone has at some point taken something that did not belong to them when the opportunity presented itself and they either thought it to be a trifling matter or were simply malevolent in their youth

I had a stealing phase as a kid, and I stole beer from my dad before for a party(I was underage).

I'm incredibly honest now. Men who don't keep their word are worthless.

My friends and I once stole a LEGO set from Toys 'R Us when I was a kid. My dad found out and I was promptly spanked. But damn, it was an awesome set. It was one of those deep sea diver sets with the crystals and what-not. I walked in through the front door where my dad was watching TV and, being 10 year old or some shit, he immediately knew I didn't have the allowance to afford it lol.

Since then... no, never stolen anything.

@OP - I have shoplifted probably thousands of pounds worth of things... mostly food and mostly while I was full-on, sleeping on a bench homeless. In times where I was a little poorer I have resorted to it for food even when I have had a house to sleep in.

Those incidents are somewhat reasonable in my eyes. I also had my own weird code - I wouldn't steal from small businesses or from people - only from large supermarkets whose loss would be minimal compared to others.

I don't do it anymore though. Not for a good many years. I have a house, did have a job etc... Just isn't worth losing all that over a sandwich. Especially when I now have the means to live comfortably enough without theft.
