A tidal wave, bit of an exaggeration. Have you seen the polls?

Bernie isn't even in shouting distance.

Sander's line appears to be going up exponentially.

I'm not into sci-fi.

That last part of the sentence seriously bothers me though....

True. I was just giving an extreme example for the fun of it. Data mining still opens the doors for exploitation with technology that is already here or just around the corner, though. And I think as a whole we're seriously underestimating the risks.

This bionano stuff you fear is a necessary part of our evolution and will ensure our survival

Its a shame we wont live to see it

Though regardless of the intent of the original miners, the data could anyways be sold or stolen.

yep. this year the australian government passed a bill that allows for a data retention regime that collects metadata. this puts countless asylum seekers in danger as the information is stored offshore, likely in china to keep costs low. some people do have things to hide

Almost all technology has a potential for evil. Take a hammer for instance - I'm pretty sure 1-5k years ago - it would have been a technological advance, Today, it could be used to help construct a home for the homeless, or it could you be used to smash the head of someone you don't like. Should we not make hammers? I hardly think tools are a cause for alarm but rather the intent of the person is what we ever have to be vigilant in determining.

because we're talking about data collection using electronics, not hammers. in this case the tool is far more important than intent.
