A major problem with this is that a lot of reputable news sources that still do have good journalism departments like NYT or WaPo need to put clickbait shit out to make money. In the current sphere of clicks=money for advertisement, you need to clickbait to stay alive.

True. The NYT puts out some of the best journalism.

Capitalist news is garbage because it has to be a commodity. For some reason though the Market Fundementalists truly believe that their personal ideology is objectively true when applied to everything.

and some of the worst. the core of the issue IMHO is that there are too few big news outlets left that have the resources to do high-quality investigative journalism. when those few big news corporations are ideology-driven, we have the situation we're in right now: a mainstream news market that is dominated by a uniform point of view, and a lack of neutral coverage. politics have polarized the news market.
