seems like a nice gesture, good way to start bridging the divide in society created by the islamaphobes - love the comments in the article

Like 1.6 billion Muslims around the world fasting during the holy month of Ramadan, Jeff Cook has been rising before dawn each morning to have breakfast. He doesn’t eat again until breaking his fast with dinner.

But Mr. Cook isn’t Muslim, doesn’t have close Muslims friends, and has never been inside a mosque. The Christian pastor from Greeley, Colo., is fasting for the 30 days of Ramadan, which ends Friday, as part of a nascent effort among American Christians to better understand and support Muslims.

Maybe he could say some Muslim prayers... that would help him better understand.

I pretty much do this every day. Breakfast before sunup and don't get hungry again til after sundown. Don't see how it's such a big deal... a fast is supposed to require discipline right? Sounds like the easiest fast ever.

Depends what time you call breakfast lol. Can't eat past like 3:45 am (it varies day to day). Fasting helps you understand how the poor feel ( not the only reason though ).

But praise to you.

After the 30 days, he will force his wife to wear a Hijab to help her better understand the Muslim community.

...except the poor don't get to stuff their faces at night when the daily " fast " is over .

Maybe he's getting ready for some missionary work in ISIS controlled lands next year and doesn't want to be executed for eating during daylight like Syrian teenagers are.

Not the point lol. It's to feel hungry and thirsty.

One of the biggest parts of fasting is the mental aspect as well, Widow and IceMage just don't understand so they mock. I used to fast on the weekends mixing meditation with it. I found that fasting during the week made me too weak physically, as I've always had physically demanding jobs. That is why there is the compromise of fasting from sunup to sundown on Ramadan. It's actually a way for more Muslims to stay in touch with their Islamic teachings and still provide for their families. The Islamic religion has flexibility in ways that allow for it's people to stay religious and still take care of the common sense things of day to day life.

It's easy to mock what you don't understand
it actually takes some thought and understanding to see things through another lens.

True. If your life or well being is in stake then you aren't supposed to fast. So in our situation if your work is very demanding physically, then you would have a reason not to fast.

Didn't thousands of people die in Pakistan because of dehydration? Or did I make that up?
