The problem is that "slam-dunk" cases like this are used to justify continuing the executions in not-so-slam-dunk cases. When 1 in 25 death row inmates are innocent, the only way to stop
real injustice is to take a step back when you have such slam-dunk cases and say "there's a better way."
No one is proud of this monster, but killing him makes it easier to keep killing people who aren't monsters.
