Since the publication of Edward Said's Orientalism in 1978, much academic discourse has begun to use the term "Orientalism" to refer to a general patronizing Western attitude towards Middle Eastern, Asian and North African societies. In Said's analysis, the West essentializes these societies as static and undeveloped—thereby fabricating a view of Oriental culture that can be studied, depicted, and reproduced. Implicit in this fabrication, writes Said, is the idea that Western society is developed, rational, flexible, and superior.
this is exactly what i think and i don't give a fuck if it's fallacious, i'm sick of the fighting
War in the Middle East pales compared to the wars Europeans have fought. I don't know if The West should be lecturing about peace. Europe has turned into a complete bloodbath throughout history over and over again, Americans have been at war for 222 years of their 239 years of existence, your Australia has even participated and forged its national identity in some of these more recent bloodbaths, along with the Kiwis a stones throw away.
It is novel that anybody in Western culture, descendents of the savage and ass-beating Greeks, can say another culture is too war-like
