Riley isnt dumb, there is a reason that this contract is 1 year. Its basically a compromise, because Wade wanted to get paid, but Riley still wanted to keep financial flexibility for next year.

There was no way Riley gonna offer a 3 or 4 year contract over 20 mill / y. And you can bet Wade rather wanted a longer contract.

Gotta give props to him, he handeled the offseason for Miami perfect. Good draft, and didn't give Wade a contract that hurt the future of the franchise.

If Wade still plays at a high lvl, you can still offer him a contract next offseason. If he declines further while being injured a ton, you can evaluate the situation again.
