If you take the narrative of Jesus Christ to be true then this would have to be the case.

if for no other reason His message was one of humility, he would want the appearance of a workman

someone who was like everybody else on the outside.

The gospels are a wonderful set of lessons, brought by what appeared to be an ordinary man on the outside

but was God incarnate in reality (if you believe the Christian Story)

If you don't believe that he was the son of God, his message is still beautiful.
