I picked up the D750 today :)

I have sold half of my DX stuff, still need to get rid of my 18-35 Art though (to refill the bank account balancing out the purchase). Nevertheless, what a difference. ISO 12800 on the D750 is the same as the D5200's ISO 3200. Plus, the RAW images just come out with better color and depth in so many scenarios. And... honestly... someone must be passing a rumor around... croppability on my 150-600 has remained the same or improved slightly.

It's such an odd shift over though. Like being a newbie all over again to photography. Everything seems better. So long as nothing conks out on me, I intend to keep the D750 for many many years to come. I'm an opportunist by heart though, so if something wonderful comes around in 2 years and the resale makes sense, I'll jump at it... but I may become sentimental about this DSLR... it fits exactly what I want for everything in this hobby. Invest in glass first? No! Get full frame and then get glass. Hah!

There is a small imperfection in the viewfinder though. A little pixel-sized bright spot. Like, instead of a darker dust spot, it's just a brighter spot, only viewable in bright light against a blue sky or something. Nothing comes through in the shots. No idea what it's from.

I do have much less lenses though (or I will once the sales go through). Just three: Two primes (50 & 85) and the 150-600 Contemporary. I'll be looking out for a deal on a 24-85 f3.5-4.5 VR lens though, maybe I'll find a rich person selling for $100-$160. It's one of those $500-ish quality lenses that comes as a kit lens that a lot of people upgrade from, but still resolves wonderful sharpness and has good VR.

I might even keep my 10-20 for now though, but I'm not sure (I kind of need the resale money). It works at 13mm in 1.2x crop mode, and sharpness is even better that way than on DX at 10mm.

Nice congrats on the upgrade! How'd you like the 18-35 sigma art? Do you have any experience with the Sigma 35mm 1.4 art on a dx camera? The reviews are great for FF, but couldn't find much for it on a dx body.

E: That is crazy how ISO 12800 on the D750 is comparable to ISO 3200 on a D5200. I don't even bother shooting anything higher than ISO 800 on my D5300. But then again, I don't do much photography that requires high ISO.

I'm considering the 30mm Art as well, but I don't want to go through the hassle to sell the lens when/if I upgrade to FF in the future.

Just get the 35mm Art instead of the 30mm Art if you want to keep the lens if you move to FF.

The 18-35mm 1.8 Art was probably the best lens I've ever handled (optically). It was ridiculously sharp, and the color rendition was excellent. There is no zoom lens that utilizes a 24 megapixel camera on crop sensors as well as the 18-35mm Art does... just hands down, nothing comes close to the detail rendition (P-Mpix).

High ISO has come in handy lots for me with my 150-600mm lens. If I won the lottery and could go out and get a 600mm f4e lens, I would have an extra couple of stops to play with on the aperture end of things, buuuut... I don't have $14,000-ish to dish around, just for birds.

My only concern with the 35mm is its weight and size relative to the tiny D5300 body. Did you find your 18-35 difficult to handle on your D5200? I believe the 18-35 is even larger than the 35mm.

Do you plan to trade in your 18-35 for a 35mm Art?

I sold my crop sensor gear already, so I have the 50 1.8g, 85 1.8g, and 150-600 sigma.

If I got another lens it would be 24-70 2.8 or tamron 15-30 VC.

What do you think about the 150-600 Sigma? Ive only got the 50 1.4 for my D610 still and I need me some telephoto!

The 150-600 Contemporary is really good. I don't know how it compares to the Tamron, but based on reading lots of reviews (and handling my own 150-600), it seems to perform just as good at 600mm. The selling point for the Sigma 150-600 over the Tamron was the dock (so I can customize focus limiting, and if the focus ever shifts a bit over time I can re-calibrate without calling in warranty). I haven't had to calibrate my 150-600 at all though. You can build two different custom profiles as well to customize the way the optical stabilization works, and you can also modify your focus limitations more (so if you want one for sports and you know you won't be going to infinity, and only up to say a certain number of feet, you can limit that). Or, if you're doing wildlife and you want a custom setting to 25 feet and beyond, you can do that. Both the Tamron and Sigma come with built-in switches to focus 15 feet and beyond (something like that), but the custom profile can let you set limitations to something further or a more specific confined range.

If you've used the 70-300 VR, the performance of the 150-600 Contemporary is just slightly better at 600mm than the 70-300 VR at 300mm.

On full frame I like it a fair bit better. If you think about the way a crop sensor gets more "detail", it simply collects data onto smaller (but more) pixels which focus on the center-most portion of the lens. If the center-most portion of the lens is only capable of producing say... 6 perception megapixels of sharpness, then a full frame sensor is going to get the same amount of sharpness when cropped in on the exact same shot for the exact same end result (since you won't need those 24 megapixels). The full frame will make use of all of the glass across the lens (and the Sigma has better corner-to-corner sharpness than the Tamron), so if you manage to fill your frame without needing to crop at all, you get an even sharper image off of full frame. Furthermore, that ISO performance on full frame (up to 2 stops worth over equivalent crop sensors) provides so much more in the way of being able to get a usable image, or a croppable image.

Just some things to mention about why the 150-600 is pretty sweet on ff.

Hah. Yes, you did. But it seemed too steep then. It still seems too steep now!!! I really want a Tamron 15-30 f2.8 VC and Tamron 24-70 f2.8 VC though, and if I were to do some pro work (probably won't) but if I did I'd love to have a 70-200 f2.8!!!!

Honestly though just enjoying 50mm wide open most of the time, really fun. Just missing a fast wide for some landscapes from sunset to night.
