Here's the deal:

I want to buy the Sigma 150-600 Contemporary. My girlfriend thinks a lens shouldn't be more than $600 if I'm not doing professional work.

I really want this lens.

However, I hardly used my 70-300 VR lens. When I did, it was A LOT of fun. But I haven't used it a whole lot over the past 2 years.

Basically, how do I know if I'll use the lens before I have it? With other focal lengths, it's a lot easier to tell. With nature & wildlife, you kind-of need the lens before you know. The 70-300 VR has never quite been 'enough'... not sharp enough for cropping, not long enough for everything.

You answered your own question.

You need more length then get it.

You have the 100-400 I believe and like a 400mm prime

I personally rent lenses long before I make a purchase.
