On the contrary, there's never been this many good series on the air at the same time, we're living in a new golden age of TV.
It only would appear depressing and bad if you compare what's playing now vs the best stuff that's all already done that's available for streaming or download. It's unfair to compare one year's crop vs catching up on the best from a decade or two of TV. It usually happens when one runs out of old content to catch up on from streaming or torrents.
