...those " free homes " will be run down shitholes in 10 years time . I guess that's not a problem for the occupants since they can just get another free home .

Yep, they need to do it like Utah and provide a social worker, its Canada so they already get medicine.

I think theres a better middle ground of better mass housing, single tiny fucking rooms for bare minimum safe roofs. Then work on improvements. Too many areas cant house their homeless with even something as comfortable as a broom closet. 20k-100k a year could build some very adequate minimum housing for those who may be in the actual pits.

...does your cost analysis include the maintenance on these free homes and the increase in crime and drug use that comes with government housing ?

Once again it's a pitiful testament that we the superpower to the world refuse to take care of our most unfortunate brothers and sisters. With a slight change in the tax laws this wonderful idea could spring up in all of most troubled spots.

The largest percentage of homeless are women with children, a cramped bare minimum housing unit would be dangerous, a breeding ground for illegal activities that could be much better monitored when the population is separated. And a single home atmosphere will be the right atmosphere for families trying to form some cohesion.

Because medical care is expensive, when you only go to the emergence room because that's all you have access to the price adds up

I agree 100% and we all know that there is more fat that could be trimmed off the Federal budget than Oprah lost that one time she got skinny. I think all Democrats would look at the hulking beast that our government has become and agree right with everyone else that it could shed pounds. The problem is then one of the countries biggest employers starts laying off it's SHTF time.

The thing we should do is take a moment, and examine whether the country is working on track and in focus with what your foundation beliefs are. Can you look back 10 years,20,50years ago and be proud of our actions? If you aren't happy with something what would you change?

Good fer the old folks up at Medicine Hat eh?

So the practical solution is not to panic that things are going well in Canada, continue on our course of helping the poor with food assistance, continue providing housing as available to those in need, and a goal would be getting people out of housing and off the streets faster. Controlled charity is the answer. If these people want to live like birds in the sky we have to make sure they're fed and have a warm place at night, even if that place is in the park under the stars. It is about reciprocated kindness, and it is our responsibility to show who is the better man.
