I tend to avoid the corporate shills and "family business" politicans (clintons), I prefer an idealist that might actually stick to them once they reach the office

Google revealed the top 5 searches on all the 2016 presidential hopefuls, and almost all of them are how old is the person, how tall are they, are they a republican or democrat..

just shows where societies values are... nobody cares what the candidate's policies are.. just what they look like..

yes and there are pro's and con's to both as there are with all politicans and ideologies

Rand and Sanders may be idealist but their ideas are on totally opposite sides of the spectrum.

/e Rand is just schilling for votes. He doesn't actually believe any of the "liberal" things he talks about. He is as right wing conservative as the next republican.

So you just care that they have strongly held ideological beliefs, no matter what they are?

Is this based on anything besides an obvious bias in favor of sanders?
Its pretty clear to anyone who isn't lying that he does in fact have strong libertarian leanings and beliefs, a track record with years of working towards changing things for the better including working with democrats on criminal justice reform, and his father is Ron Paul who had an amazing career consistently holding the same beliefs and advocating the same things for several decades.
