It writes ones and zeros to every spec of the hard drive..sure a forensics person might want to spend a fortune retrieving the data, but unless you got NSA files on there, you be ok.


If you want you can choose the bottom-most choice, (DOD, Dept. of Defense, wipe) which will take for ever, but it's even harder to get data from the drive then.

Pretty sure it's a myth that people can retrieve files even after it has been fully overwritten.
