Ah ok, what I meant was it takes away the need for people to form their own morals and instead gives them a set of 'rules' which are often misconstrued and vulnerable to extremist exploitation.

It does both to be fair. Gives people things that they are inherently inclined to agree to, such as killing, stealing, cheating is bad - then makes pronouncements on more complicated issues.

sort of like 'oh well they say murder is bad and I can totally agree with that but what about buttsecks? Oh it's bad? Well i guess they were right about the murder thing.'

sums it up pretty nicely

May see a rise in private school enrollment in Texas soon.

LOL! Never could quite understand how a religion could take away someone's own better judgement like that.

Nope, the nicer areas of Texas have higher per capita income than an affluent California city. They have a booming economy right now. Whole reason I found this garbage of an article was because I was looking into investing there.

So.. it doesn't actually say he was a founding father..

and the bible definitely did have a major influence on virtually all of the founding fathers..

Among other errors, the textbook suggests that Moses influenced the writing of the Constitution and that the roots of democracy can be found in the Old Testament.

Democracy was not even a concept in the Old Testament. Of course the bible had an influence on the founding fathers, the entire population was nonsecular back in their days. Doesn't mean they built a country on its values. If some values coincide with the preachings of the bible, it doesn't mean it originated from it. Christian values, specifically, the 10 commandments, are not exclusive to Christianity, as has already been said in this thread.

Lol... Democracy in the bible. Old testament especially was all about totalitarian theocracy.

It's like, let's emphasise (or in this case, make up) the similarities between the bible and Constitution and pass it off as a causal relationship. Oh, but don't worry about all the parts that are different or even conflicting. No, they don't matter at all.

#christianlogic

God had nothing to do with the earthquake but is totally awesome for letting that baby survive his house collapsing when the rest of the family died. It's a miracle!

52 out of the 55 signers of the constitution were openly christian. Read some of their writings and you will see how much God and the Bible is referenced and how much of what they stood for was direct ideology from the Bible. The 10 Commandments and the Bible are the reason why Europe and later North America has blossomed into what we are now. And besides who are you to dictate or judge Texas? There is obvious support from the constituency and if they want to have Moses as a founding father it is their American right to do so, stop trying to push your views that are in a extreme minority on a majority.
