This trailer is almost 200% inaccurate, although visually appealing.... Most of those instances are rare in occurrence.
EvE Online is a highly complex MMO that takes years to even scratch the surface of a general "Mastery" of the game.
That being said, a three week old character can and will destroy a 10 year vet with the right knowledge and patience/skill. Just because you're new doesn't mean you're out of the loop by any means.
The bigger ships (Capitals IE: Carriers, Dreads, Titans etc) are not always the best solution and if used incorrectly will kill you. There are many stories of some guy in a Titan exploding to a fleet of new players because he tried to jump it though a gate.
I highly reccomend trying EVE Online if you're serious about getting into it. It's by far the highly rewarding MMO I've ever played.
Some basic things EVE Has that other MMOs Don't.
When you lose a ship, It's gone. Forever. You must buy/build a new one.
You can buy PLEX in-game with ISK (EVE's Currency) and a PLEX gives you 1 month of game time. So If you're smart and know how to make a lot of ISK, you can play EVE for free. I highly recommend not doing that for your first couple months, ISK would rather be used to buy ships/have fun etc. Worry about buying PLEX later on.
You can legally buy pilots on the EVE Forums with ISK. This means if you want to buy a character that can already fly a Dreadnaught or Carrier, You can. Legally. The flip side of this is that you can sell your characters as well, I recently sold one of mine for 15 Billion ISK, which helped me out a lot.
There is no "Level Grind". Everything is done in a real-time training format. You train a skill and it will give you a time when it ends, this continues when you're logged off. So if you ever take a break from EVE, it is better to keep your account sub'd and continue your skill que so when you return, you have a much better pilot.
