I love how he agreed to go to Sweden under the protection that he be guaranteed he wouldn't be extradited to the USA on bullshit political charges and they refused to guarantee that .... All the proof I need that this nonsense is a bunch of trash.

Julian Assange isn't significant enough to be of any value to the US. We have had bigger fish to fry for years now.

They never forget a name though, and I'll bet they'd swoop his ass up so fast it would make your head spin.

This sounds more like a Peter Sellers Bungling of a non-case urged on by the US who have no face to lose if it doesn't work and a little canary to catch if it does.

I support them fully investigating the Rape allegations, promise that he won't be extradited to the USA for political charges and deal with the actual issue at hand

Yes, which is why we don't let liars exploit those rights.

He broke the condom on purpose? Must be because of that common male practice of punching yourself in the groin....

Sounds legit.

Why? There's an extradition treaty in place, it's the right thing to do for him to return to Sweden, and according to Swedish law it's the right thing to hand him over to the Americans.

As a point of perspective there was a good number of death threats to Assange for quite some time after the intial wikileaks from high ranking Govt officials here in the usa (so much for due process and freedom of the press). Time has shown that info he vetted and released to the guardian and to the american media while shining a light on the abuses that have happened in iraq and the spying apparatus, no actual person has been harmed. The intial outrage from some was of the type that claimed american lives where at risk because of the info he released, the proverbial he's outing out our spies and convert operators being put out risk have not panned out. Assange's wikilinks acting as a media outlet that carefully publishes the info other individuals are sending him in the capacity of a whistleblower is admirable and is fulfilling the watchdog aspect of the press that is sorely lacking in the mainstream media.

So of course he's not going to place where the Govt will hand him over willy nilly to the USA govt to stand trial or to become blacksited in some hole. The time since the initial cable-gate release of the controversial documents has shown the fallacy of the "putting american lives at risk and damaging the UsA". We are perscuting the whileblower and wikileaks while war criminals are getting a pass. The action's of the war criminals and unconstitutional spy apparatus is where our derision should lay.

If an indictment has been issued in secret, then Assange could find himself in US custody shortly after landing in Sweden. He could be charged with espionage (the Obama administration has already invoked the law more than all previous US administrations combined), and could be imprisoned for life or executed.

The rape charges seem pretty trumped up to me, an excuse to grab Assange and then extradite him.

There was no crime or allegations to begin with.

Your Imperialist morality is showing. It is the legal thing to do. Legality =/= Morality. And when things are this transparent "oh he pissed our friends off we just want to talk to him (here only, can't on the phone or there)".
