I would just clear zones. Work towards 100% completion in all areas, and do your main story quests when you are of that level.

as a new player- just play the game. go explore, level, do events.

dont worry about "power leveling" as it wont serve you well. youll still need to figure out your class mechanics, game mechanics, controls and such, and there really isnt a substitute for practice

*edit* going to edge of the mists is a faster way to level and gain some loot. (press B, select edge of the mists, follow the commander tag icon and zerg)
