Studies have found that secular teenagers are far less likely to care what the “cool kids” think, or express a need to fit in with them, than their religious peers. When these teens mature into “godless” adults, they exhibit less racism than their religious counterparts, according to a 2010 Duke University study. Many psychological studies show that secular grownups tend to be less vengeful, less nationalistic, less militaristic, less authoritarian and more tolerant, on average, than religious adults.

Long story short - Secular people are, as a generalisation, better people.

Won't be long before the Western World is majority Secular. Another 2 generations according to some studies. I look forward to this Secular Utopia in which people are less racist, less jingoistic and just all round better people. Even if I'll be a geriatric by then at least I might live to see it :)

I really think we need to stop positing "studies" in these forums with terrible methodology and questionable data.

I'm just picturing all the weirdo kids in high school who wore black jeans with chains. Pretty much all of them were socially awkward, and figured out if they started dressing like the other freaks, they would finally have a group of friends. They were some bad asses though, refusing to stand for the pledge and smoking cigs at 16. I'm sure they got far in life.

Judging by your profile picture, I'm guessing you ran with the same kids.

Amen.

And yes do you really need a fucking study to know that someone who secular is already not trying to fit in. Why would they care what is cool? Why does this need a thread or story? Are secular people somehow better than believers? High fucking horse to be riding. I can tell you living in the Bible Belt you're not going to find overall more nicer, generous people. Anyone who's been to the South with anywhere of an open mind rather than trying to cast everyone as bible-fucking racists before they even meet them.

In college, being secular is fitting in. What's not fitting in is being religious and being vocal about it, especially in philosophy/sociology classes. :D

Well, I sure didn't go to your college. Where I went everything is closed and Church's near campus are packed on Sundays...

Doesn't mean their methodology on this study was good or that this data is worth anything.
