I know you're not really that naive, understanding the origin of our species is absolutely crucial to understanding how humans make decisions, how we have biases and our judgment can be clouded without us realizing it. Anyone that doesn't accept evolution is fundamentally irrational because they are oblivious to their cognitive failings.

I think you're being a bit too philosophical. A good leader doesn't need knowledge of evolution to be effective. Do you really believe the politicians of today are better leaders than Churchill, Roosevelt, Lincoln, etc? It's just silly to think one aspect of scientific knowledge has a profound effect on how people think.

Single issue voters should be lined up and shot with a single bullet.

There goes the republican party, not to mention the libertarian party and the liberal feminists.

As much as it pains me to say it.. yes i do. Hate all 3 of those guys.

I agree on the evolution point however. Its pretty irrelevant to political aptitude, but itd be nice if they would say they believe in it to shut up the peanut gallery.

Yes, educated people in general today are better than people pre-Darwin (intellectually, not ethically) because they understand the world hundreds of times better than they did.

Darwin's idea is the most important in human history, bar none, it is crucial to being an educated person to accept it first and foremost. It is not "one aspect of scientific knowledge", it is the foundation of everything human.

How would knowledge of evolution enable someone to make a better decision on foreign policy, or economic policy?

Economics is probably the single best example of how it's crucial. There's even the growing field of neuroeconomics that rests on evolutionary theory: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuroeconomics

Any social or economic decision has to take into account evolutionary psychology to be properly informed.

Give me an example. How does president Obama benefit from knowing about the theory of evolution?

Growing fields of scientific thought don't really influence the president. Maybe his advisers know about it, but I'm guessing it hasn't influenced their decision making all that much. If it actually has changed economic thought in a way that would influence presidential decision making, please enlighten me.

Impossible to enlighten someone who believe in some illumination.
