Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker on Wednesday declined to answer whether he believes in evolution.

The Republican governor, during a question-and-answer session after a speech in London, where he is on a four-day trade mission, was asked whether he believes in or accepts evolution.

“For me, I’m going to punt on that one as well,” Walker said, prompting some murmurs in the crowd at Chatham House, a major London think tank. “That’s a question a politician shouldn’t be involved in one way or another. So, I’m going to leave that up to you.”

When pressed on the issue, Walker, a likely 2016 presidential candidate, said he didn’t want to focus on it. “To me, it’s just one of those, I’m just here to talk about trade, not to pontificate on other issues,” he said.

This story really pisses me off. It's unbelievable, in this day and age, that hopeful Republican presidential candidates can't speak plainly about non-debatable issues of science. As Bobby Jindal said years ago, we need to stop being the party of stupid.

I get that some naive, old religious people may take issue with it... but I think it would be a net positive politically if Republicans would just speak the truth.

Thoughts PaRD? Let's not turn this into a liberal circle jerk.

Agreed, obviously. I strongly disagree with him that politicians shouldn't be involved with fundamental theories of science. If you don't accept evolution your decision making is fundamentally flawed.

Well, it doesn't have much relevance at all to their job, but the only reason it gets constantly brought up is because so many Republicans won't answer the question. It's the same with global warming.

Sometimes I can't tell if you're playing dumb or just dumb.

Doesn't really matter, not believing in something as trivial as whether or not we change every million years or so isn't going to affect anyone's decision making.

Accepting anthropogenic global warming is also crucial to rational political decision making.

I know you're not really that naive, understanding the origin of our species is absolutely crucial to understanding how humans make decisions, how we have biases and our judgment can be clouded without us realizing it. Anyone that doesn't accept evolution is fundamentally irrational because they are oblivious to their cognitive failings.

It matters to all the young idiots who vote, and it just perpetuates the belief that Republicans are old and naive.

Single issue voters should be lined up and shot with a single bullet.
