Con: it allows popular but bad congressmen to stay in office a while

Pro: it allows good congressmen to stay in office a while

Do you think private institutions/corps would have as strong of a grasp on congressmen if term limits were in place, or do you think there would be minimal change in regards to that

It wouldn't change anything, might even make things worse. New election coming up, corporation puts money behind their shill so he wins, now he's their puppet for the next few years.

doesn't this happen already though and instead of a few years perhaps indefinitely?

the flipside is that said congressman might be less willing to go the corrupt route if he/she knows their stay is limited to begin with.

You kidding? Only has a few years he's probably gonna sell out even more.

/e especially knowing he doesn't need to worry about reelection.

we are having a hypothetical argument now m8, both views equally plausible but no on evidence either side

if a person knows they have the potential to hold that position until the end of time there would be greater incentive to hold on to said position. falling into corruption would likely go some way into holding on to that position forever

Knowing you need to get reelected is a good reason to not be a terrible/corrupt congressmen. Knowing you don't need to worry about reelection means you have no reason to care about how well you do, and how much citizens like you.

The perceived need for term limits is just a reflection of our failure as voters. We continue to elect status quo politicians who won't compromise.
