It is impossible to hold developing countries to the same standards as developed countries.  Apples and oranges.

best answer possible. with a development mentality being the norm of your country its anthropologically hypocritical of us to chastise others for mistakes out forefathers made.

the #1 reason america grew to power was unchecked growth. just ask the native american population, o wait i dont have a time machine.

It is no longer accurate to call China a developing country. Sure, lot's of their country lives in abject poverty, but visit Shanghai or Beijing and you'll find a city that resembles most industrialized cities.

It's hard to really consider China a frontier type country that is just now experiencing rapid growth, industry wise they have been growing for decades, so it wouldn't be a stretch to expect some regard to the environment, I think what has spurred China to the fore-front most recently has been their accumulated wealth. Some of what I'm sure is due to Godly profit magrins due to very low labor costs and very lax regulations of both worker safety and environmental.

i agree about physical development. but culturally china has some serious road bumps that will allow them to be culturally developed. im interested to see where the countryside of china is in a decade. the disparities there could be frightening

Why? Urban China is fairly cosmopolitan, rural China is irrelevant because they're all peasants.

large tracts of lands have become depopulated and are left with largely elderly populations that cant sustain themselves. eventually they will be slums.

I doubt it. There's enough people in rural China to take over if there are incentives. Slums in China are unlikely. E

I wonder how long could this last.

Till the worlds runs out of coal and oil probably.

As long as someone has some oil product to sell , i'm quite sure they'll sell to the highest bidder.

Well just have to get used to seconds now.
