...

Because the top 40% = the 1% ?

most of those 40% are middle and upper middle class not the elite few % so your quote still validates my point

No, it doesn't. Upper class people pay most of the taxes, and lower class people take more out of the system than they put in. Saying 99% of citizens are paying for our government is completely false.

basic math fail

this is like the 100th time i've seen the same stupid nonsense about "rich people pay all the taxes"

do you people regularly purchase lottery tickets too?

once you get a job and start paying taxes you might understand the obvious flaw in this logic

Personal attacks and conclusions without evidence. Fancy that.

http://taxfoundation.org/blog/top-1-percent-pays-more-taxes-bottom-90-percent

"In 1980, the bottom 90 percent of taxpayers paid 50.72 percent of income taxes. In 2011 (the most recent year the data is available), the bottom 90 percent paid 31.74 percent of taxes. On the flip side, the top 1 percent paid 19.05 percent of taxes in 1980 and now pay 35.06 percent of taxes."

Second paragraph

no really, that's some mind numbly dumb shit that keeps getting posted over and over again in here as if something if it's something profound when all it exposes is how little you understand of taxes and income

slash taxes in half on all top income earners and they'll still be responsible for the vast majority of the tax revenue a country pulls in on a yearly basis

What specifically did I post that was inaccurate?

Maybe you can go find another site to copy and paste from, I won't tell.

Taxes are relative to the amount one makes its important we look at the % of income. Some one making 50k gross and nets 40k is under a bigger strain that the billionaires paying 1% in taxes even if that 1% equates into millions of dollars.

You are confusing the upper class with the 1% i'm speaking about. I'm not talking about the people that make a few millions a year, yes they are considered the "upper" class but not the elites that have hundreds of millions in off shore bank account, exploit tax loopholes, directly affect policy by buying off politicians through "campaign contributions, committing insider trading, etc.

Someone that makes a few millions a year and contributes to the bulk of those taxes you quoted are not the 1%

there's nothing inaccurate about the numbers you quoted (i think, haven't verified)

it's the interpretation of those numbers that is just plain ignorant

and pls you can't even tell when i'm copy/pasting despite how obvious i make it

When looking at what percentage of taxes the federal government takes in from the upper class, you aren't going to look at it in terms of their income, but in terms of the total money taken in by the federal government...

I think you are the one confused about what the 1% is...a quick google search provides multiple sources that say you only need to be making $300-400k to be in the top 1%. The billionaires are a much smaller percentage than 1.0

He didn't make an interpretation? He just said (err quoted or w/e) top bracket contributes significantly more than bottom bracket, to which you agree

Ofc we can make social deductions as to why this is the case, but none have been made so far in this bound to get nowhere thread
