Ben Affleck doesn't know shit about what he's talking about... or arguing against. But he successfully managed to talk over and stifle a very important debate with his stupidity.

So here are some polls on Muslim opinions and sentiment -

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ICM Poll: 20% of British Muslims sympathize with 7/7 bombers
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1510866/Poll-reveals-40pc-of-Muslims-want-sharia-law-in-UK.html

61% of Egyptians approve of attacks on Americans
32% of Indonesians approve of attacks on Americans

62% of Jordanians approve of some or most groups that attack Americans (21% oppose)
42% of Turks approve of some or most groups that attack Americans (45% oppose)
A minority of Muslims disagreed entirely with terror attacks on Americans:
(Egypt 34%; Indonesia 45%; Pakistan 33%)
About half of those opposed to attacking Americans were sympathetic with al-Qaeda’s attitude toward the U.S.

As we can see, anti-western, pro-jihad, pro Shariah, anti-liberal sentiment is not (as Sam Harris tried to say) endorsed only by an extreme minority. Worldwide it probably even accounts for a majority.

This is an important message that, I think, genuinely needs to be discussed without being put down as racism or bigotry as soon as it is brought up. After 9/11 and Iraq and Afghanistan and now with ISIS I think it has to be accepted that radical Islam is not an ignorable minority and that it will not go away any time soon without intervention and support to moderate Muslims who try to speak out against the injustices committed in the name of their faith.

At some point we have to accept that Islam requires real reform in order to be able to fit in with Western values and in the meantime that Muslims who hold such sentiments cannot, for our safety, be a part of our society.

I know. But that doesn't mean that inviting him didn't have an effect on the conversation. It did. He drowned it out.

How do you get" probably even accounts for a majority" out of these stats viv?

you have set out a very nice set of smokescreens with hate and fear mongering but with very little in real stats. to back your statements up

and for the most part you have cherry picked stats from old polls.

why not leave the hate mongering to the religious, they do it so well, take the high road...for science's sake!

This is exactly the kind of comment that stifles debate on the issue. People are afraid to discuss these issues in a public forum because they don't want to be branded as racists or bigots or accused of 'hate and fear mongering'.

The polls are relevant. You wanna look up any more recent ones then feel free. I can't imagine the stats will be drastically different. There is a 2014 poll on Saudi sentiment regarding ISIS that shows they are overwhelmingly supportive of the IS. But 2009 is only 5 yrs ago... What do you think has changed so much since then?

I got 'probably a majority' because, surprise surprise, the countries which have the highest Muslim populations also have the most fundamentalist Islamic sentiment.

Simple math. Although I admit it's a vague estimate. That's why I said probably. The only certainty is that they are not a 'fringe minority' as some may claim.

As for 'very little in real stats' - I have shown what the polls asked and their results and linked to my sources. How much more real do you want me to get? It's not hard to find dozens of similar polls with a simple google search. If you doubt me then show me conflicting research.

Anything that seeks to undermine Christendom supports Islam by default.
