Being pop culture, and relatively on topic, Spongebob stole Mermaid Man's belt, which when activated by orienting the M in standard fashion, would shrink the object in front of it. Conversely, when oriented to the W position, known as wumbo, would vastly increase the size of the object facing. Now that we have a little backstory, it now makes a lot of sense why they call him Miniature Man.
