Not to distract from the thread too much, but I personally feel the happiest people are those that maintain their spirituality without being religious. It is possible to believe in something divine without attributing it to mainstream religions.

I'm not saying that's me, but from what I have observed those people feel they don't have a needto press on to others what they believe like a lot of atheo/religious folks.

You can be spiritual without being religious? Damn, that's new to me.

So.. give us the jist.. what's your story?

Grew up Catholic. Became atheist around age 12. Around age 20 began having religious feelings and spent a couple years extensively studying and praying and reading the Bible and trying my hardest to have faith. Eventually realized I was believing what made me happy rather than what was likely to be true. That's the jist.

Just because you don't believe in a "mainstream" religion doesn't mean you aren't religious. And just because you are religious doesn't mean you press your beliefs on others.

He means he found comfort in the idea that God loved him and had a plan for him but realised it most likely wasn't true.

You can't make yourself believe... if you aren't convinced then you aren't convinced. No matter how much you'd like it to be true.

Also - there's no need for this kind of comment. That wasn't the point of his post at all. It just makes you sound ignorant.

My life when I believed in God was better. If an all-loving God exists then life is amazing.

i've never been the happier. things come and they go, and doing / being has never been the easier.
as an atheist i'd enjoy life just as much, i hope.

what i follow is like trying to tell what the colour of nothingness is.

rationality has its' purposes, to which it should be confined, it is no good at times.
the Tao is beyond and behind of what is and what is not.

TheTweetOfGod: Be careful what you pray for: you just might get it. Kidding! You won't get it.
