wasn't there some psychological experiment conducted to recreate a prison environment to show that people who were in power naturally turned into shitty shitty human beings?
Stanford Prison Experiment, yes. Old Philip Zimbardo. Not some experiment, legendary experiment....it changed the rules of using human subjects in experiments and now people like me have to go through hours and hours of CITI training to experiment on human subjects, which I just had to do for a study I'm starting to work on. In fact a unique opportunity just arose for me and I have to abandon another more mundane study to jump on the opportunity that the stars has just seemed to throw me into.
Stanford Prison Experiment highlights the need to constantly train people to not be scumbags when they're in a position of uniformed power. During the experiment Zimbardo added different treatments to see what would happen and he found our that the "prison guards" were most sadistic and dehumanizing when they were wearing mirrored sunglasses. They were bigger dicks when wearing sunglasses, but add mirrors to the glasses and their dickery would soar into the stratosphere. Stuff really escalated, people were changed, and experiments haven't been like that since.
