...if I choose to take health risks that enhance my enjoyment of life I'm more than willing to live a shorter but happier life . Everyone in this thread will be dead before the turn of the next century anyway .

That doesn't make sense.. How is eating at McDonald's bring joy to your life over NOT being lazy and cooking a great home meal?

huh? the bottom 1/5 of of american regions beat the oecd average in half the factors used.

Not all measures are equal. The measures America excels at are not as critical as the measures they fail at.

Educational attainment is a good in its own right? It's equally rated with economic well-being?

This reeks of feel good propaganda for the less well off nations out there.

One thing I can agree with is the near universal improvement in every field over time. Meanwhile Europe continues to be mired in zero growth economics and major portions of it are in outright recession.

Culture has a large impact on life expectancy. Americans eat fried food and the nature of its geography lends to car travel instead of healthier means of getting around. Acting like this takes away from the most prosperous society in human history is the sort of nonsense the impoverished bandy about to feel relevant.

The OECD doesn't do propaganda for less well of nations. One of the biggest criticisms about the OECD is it is a "rich boys club" of Western liberal democracies that do not give a shit about poorer peoples and their plight.

Certain indicators of life expectancy are cultural. Life expectancy it self is not. All indicators of life expectancy are in someway an indicator of public health. Findings about life expectancy can be generalized to conclusions about general health of a nation. Not the reasons behind poor health, but the nominal question if a country is health or not, and it's relative healthiness.

Probably not. Life expectancy should hit 100 by the half century mark, and many scholars are predicting it to be 120 sometime this century as well. It's a myth that today's children will not live as long as their parents.

I'd be incredibly surprised if life expectancy wasn't at least 150 by 2050, but obviously any claims are mere speculation.

Actually, I think it's more likely that it'll be 0 because I expect humans to be extinct by then, but if they do still exist I predict it'll be 150+ years.

Nowhere in his post it mentions McD or food for that matter. Vague as his statement was he could be talking about anything.

...and that would be for those born in 2050 which excludes everyone here . Just today I saw a life expectancy estimate for for those born this year and it was only 78 or so .

I mean that those who are alive and in good health in the year 2050 are likely to live until the age of ~150 (including those people in this thread).

The idea behind this is that life expectancy is accelerating, so that when we hit a certain point, life expectancy will grow more quickly than people age.

Again any statements on this are speculative, so I could be completely wrong.

Do you know the definition of implication? I'd advise u read a bit on it.

"take health risks that enhance my enjoyment of life" Is implying he likes to eat fast food / candy or whatever it is instead of choosing to eat healthy. Because he finds joy out of it at a risk of a shorter life, atleast that's what I got out of it.

Edit: Shorter life*
