Well there is no type of skilling that is fun in this game, we all do them because one way or the other it will become useful.

Durability is the life bar of the rod.
Just like your own life bar, the bar itself doesn't get bigger, but you can take more hits before its depleted.

Rex your catch rate, as well as the prof you gain per catch, will be far lower if you don't counter the snags. This applies to low level too. Verdun's advice is good.

this is the understanding i had on durability. but i didn't want to "taint my poll" by putting my own answer in the mix.

As the name "Durability" means... stronger, more durable... never know with this game...
Catch rate vs Release/Snap... to me... get that fish on board and gain prof.
